Smith and Wesson Knives

Horace Smith and Daniel B Wesson came from Old New England. Horace learned the firearms trade while working at the National Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts. Daniels experience came from apprenticing with his brother Edwin Wesson, who was the leading maker of target rifles and pistols in the 1840s. The two men formed their first partnership in 1852 in Norwich, Connecticut to market a lever action repeating pistol that could use a fully self-contained cartridge. Unfortunately this was not a financial success, and in 1854 the company was having financial difficulties. They were then forced to sell their company to a short manufacturer called Oliver Winchester. Then in 1866 using the original lever action design created by Smith and Wesson, Winchesters company emerged as the famous Winchester Repeating Arms Co. They formed their second partnership in 1856 and produced a small revolver designed to fire the Rimfire cartridge. They began to realise that when their patents expired they would have to have a new design so their could maintain their market superiority. This new design was completed in 1869 and the company began to market in in 1870. The Model 3 American as it became to be know as in the United States was the first caliber cartridge revolver and established Smith and Wesson became a world leader in handgun manufacturing. The accomplishments of Smith and Wesson are so numerous that is is impossible to understand the history of modern handguns without understanding the history of Smith and Wesson. They were an industry leader in 1852 when is was first founded and even now they still continue to lead the world today with innovations into the 21st century. 88 to choose from.
