The Spyderco Assist Black (model SC79PSBBK) is one serious looking knife that takes it's job serious. It is a very popular choice amongst the fire and rescue professional as it never buckles under pressure.
It comes with a 3.69” blunt tipped blade made out of VG-1 stainless steel. The blade also comes with an 80% serrated edge which is ideal for cutting seatbelts and other materials with no effort needed at all. The blade has the traditional Spyderco hole which allows you to open the knife using just one hand. This will be especially useful when in an emergency situation, if your other hand is not free to help you.
Above the hole is a cobra hood that lets you position your thumb directly over the hole for quick blade deployment and comfort. A good addition to the knife is the wavy pattern that can be seen on the top of the blade and along the inside of the handle. This lets you place a piece of rope (between the half open blade and handle) and scissor the blade shut. This is ideal to cut rope when someone is trapped without using the blade.
The handle is made from fiberglass reinforced nylon with bi-directional texturing that contours and bulges to fit in your hand. With this knife you will always maintain a firm and secure grip, even when used in wet environments. The last thing you need to be worrying about is not being able to keep a hold of it when in an emergency. When the knife is in the closed position, it squeezes the blade deeper into the handle. This allows a retractable carbide tip to pop out which will break glass.
The Spyderco Assist Black (model SC79PSBBK) also comes with a survival whistle in the handle.
