The TOPS Mission team 21 can be categorized as a tactical/battle combo blade knife which lends itself easily to wilderness situations. Designed with the help of Bill Hill (a Command Master chief SEAL TEAM 3 RETD), it was widely featured in the February 2006 issue of Blade magazine.
It sports a blade measuring 6 ¾ inches with a 5 ¾ inch cutting edge. The blade has been made using a 1095 high Carbon alloy hardened to RC-58. The blade itself is a full ¼ inch thick so can be lent to many uses such as opening cans, doors or whatever in urban situations or whatever occurs out in the woods.
Thumb placement feels natural thanks to the upper spine scalloped sections. When your thumb is placed on these sections you can also gain additional traction and achieve a higher level of control during use. The forward choil enables your hands to be closer to the blade which is great when carving. Change your grip further back when chopping or batoning wood.
The blade also enjoys a Scandinavian grind with a secondary bevel. Combine this with the piercing tip and you have a superb instrument you won't want to leave home without. Overall the Mission team 21 knife by TOPS knives measures 11 ¾ inches. The handle is Green-Black Micarta which is a laminate used both in industrial situations.
Comes complete with a MOLLE compatible Cordura ballistic Nylon sheath with a Kydex insert and an external pouch that can be used to store a small PSK (personal survival kit) or even sharpening stone.
