It’s these coins that will be traded in survival, not junk silver or even pure silver. People buy the mercury dimes and the barber dimes not only because of their 90% silver content, but because most people have a general understanding of what they’re worth.
They have defined worth. Nobody knows what they will be worth in a survival situation or a martial law situation, but they will be worth something that general everybody agrees upon. They are small and easy to carry. A handful of them is a nice chunk of change, no pun intended!
If you plan to carry around junk silver in a survival situation it’s not going to work as well because you have the added inconvenience of having to weigh the silver then convince people it’s real silver. If you show someone a mercury dime or barber dime they’re going to know you have true value in your hand.
If you’re just trying to buy silver metal near the spot price then you’re never going to get it on ebay. Ebay gets a 15% commission on these sales so it’s a losing battle from the get go. I’d be happy to talk to you off-ebay about purchasing silver metal if that’s what you’re after. Don’t bother with Amazon either as their commissions are just as bad.
